Ida B. Wells was a Black investigative journalist and educator, best known for her work as an anti-lynching activist. She investigated and documented lynching in the United States, particularly in the South, and was a vocal critic of the practice. She was inspired to do so after the lynching of her best friends who owned a local grocery store. In the quilt is a replica of the historic marker commemorating Wells’ anti-lynching crusade. She was a fierce advocate for civil rights, women's rights, and social justice throughout her life. She worked tirelessly for women’s right to vote and started the Headquarters for Colored Women Voters.
